Job description

We’re looking for a hands-on VMware NSX-T Distributed Firewall Engineer for a 3-6-month contract position (possible extension), responsible for playing a key role in advancing a large-scale enterprise Microsegmentation program. This is an opportunity to work on real-world, high-impact security initiatives—driving both new application segmentation efforts and enhancing existing policies in a complex, production environment.
This position offers a hybrid/remote schedule (3 days on-site/2 remote) in Dallas, TX.
 
COMP: Up to $85/HR depending on candidate’s experience, etc.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Microsegmentation & Delivery
  • Lead Microsegmentation efforts for new and existing applications using NSX-T DFW
  • Perform dependency mapping and flow validation (Traceflow, logs, NSX Intelligence/vRNI)
  • Design and enforce least-privilege east/west traffic policies
  • Collaborate with app teams to validate flows and coordinate cutovers
Enhancement & Support
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing DFW policies and segmentation rules
  • Investigate connectivity issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Refine legacy configurations to align with modern segmentation standards
  • Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and processes
Policy Implementation
  • Build and deploy DFW rules, groups, and services via Policy API or UI
  • Transition policies from discovery to enforcement safely
  • Implement default deny/blocking strategies post-validation
  • Follow change control processes with strong rollback planning
 
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • 5+ years of hands-on VMware NSX-T experience, with deep focus on Distributed Firewall
  • Strong understanding of:
    • DFW architecture, rule ordering, and Applied-To models
    • Dynamic groups, tagging strategies, and segmentation design
    • Traffic analysis tools (Traceflow, IPFIX, flow logs)
  • Proven experience building least-privilege segmentation in complex environments
  • Solid background in vSphere (vCenter, ESXi, VM lifecycle)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills at the network and packet level
  • Experience with NSX-T APIs, PowerCLI, or Python for automation preferred
