Family Assistant (Part-Time)

Job #: J2328

Position Details: Part-Time, Permanent, Live-Out.
Location: Washington, DC.
Schedule: Monday–Friday.
Hours: 1:00 PM–6:00 PM, with some flexibility for a 2:00 PM–7:00 PM schedule.
Compensation: $35–$40 per hour, paid via W-2.
Additional Benefits: Paid major federal holidays and paid time off.
Start Date: August 24, 2026.

A private family in Washington, DC, is seeking a proactive, energetic, and highly organized Family Assistant to support the children’s after-school routines and help keep the household running smoothly. The ideal candidate is patient with children, comfortable around a dog, and able to anticipate needs, manage multiple priorities, and assist with a wide range of household responsibilities.

Additional hours, occasional overnights, and travel opportunities may be available for an interested candidate.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Prepare healthy, simple family dinners approximately four evenings per week.
  • Plan and prepare after-school snacks for the children.
  • Assist with meal planning, grocery lists, and household food inventory.
  • Complete grocery shopping and keep the kitchen clean, organized, and well stocked.
  • Pick up the children from school and drive them to activities and appointments.
  • Supervise homework and coordinate with tutors as needed.
  • Help manage the children’s schedules and after-school routines.
  • Keep common areas neat and return household items to their proper places.
  • Complete ongoing organization and decluttering projects involving closets, drawers, and storage areas.
  • Provide light pet care, including feeding, short walks, and maintaining clean pet areas.
  • Run errands and assist with appointments, scheduling, and other household tasks.
  • Coordinate and supervise maintenance appointments and service providers.
  • Assist with veterinary appointments and other pet-related needs when required.
  • Pitch in wherever needed to support the family and household.

Qualifications and Required Qualities:
  • Previous experience as a Family Assistant, Nanny, Household Assistant, or in a similar private-home role.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience supervising homework and coordinating with tutors.
  • Strong cooking skills and the ability to prepare healthy, family-friendly meals.
  • Proactive and able to recognize and complete tasks without constant direction.
  • Highly organized with strong multitasking and time-management skills.
  • Energetic, resourceful, and willing to assist with varied responsibilities.
  • Patient, warm, and comfortable working with children.
  • Comfortable caring for and being around a dog.
  • Reliable, flexible, and professional.
  • Comfortable coordinating appointments, vendors, and household schedules.
