Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Part-Time Orchestra Library Assistant supports the Director, Music Library with tasks related to the preparation, organization, distribution, collection, and maintenance of music for upcoming New World Symphony (NWS) rehearsals, performances, readings, and other program activities. The anticipated schedule is approximately 15-20 hours per week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with preparing, organizing, distributing, collecting, and filing music for rehearsals, performances, readings, and other program activities
  • Copy, collate, scan, print, bind, and assemble parts, scores, folders, and related materials
  • Assist with marking bowings, cuts, edits, rehearsal numbers, inserts, corrections, errata, and other performance-related markings as directed
  • Review parts and scores for completeness, accuracy, legibility, page turns, and performance-readiness
  • Assemble and arrange music orchestra folders for rehearsals and performances
  • Disassemble, file and return music after completion of performances, including shipping rental music back to publishers
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in music performance, composition, or related field and a minimum of 1 - 2 years of ensemble library experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and write music in different clefs and transpositions required
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately under time-sensitive deadlines
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment, including copiers, scanners, printers, and binding equipment
  • Familiarity with music notation software, digital music platforms, or library database systems a plus
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with colleagues and Fellows
  • Ability to manage repetitive, detail-oriented work with consistency and care
  • Passion for the mission of NWS and commitment to its values of community, respect, excellence, accountability and trust

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while working at a desk, computer, copier, or music preparation station
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends
