Assistant Morningside University Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Morningside University is seeking a skilled, dependable, and service-oriented HVAC & General Electrical Technician to join our Physical Plant team. As a key member of our facilities team, you'll help ensure our classrooms, residence halls, athletic facilities, and campus buildings remain comfortable, safe, and operating at peak performance. Your primary focus will be maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems, while also providing support for general electrical and maintenance projects that keep our beautiful campus running smoothly.

Work Schedule: MondayFriday, 6:00 a.m.3:00 p.m., with participation in an on-call rotation as needed.

HVAC & Refrigeration (Primary Focus)

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, boilers, air conditioners, coolers, and freezers.
• Maintain digital and pneumatic control systems, thermostats, valves, and related HVAC controls.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical control issues.
• Monitor building automation systems to maximize efficiency and performance.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.

Preventive Maintenance

• Help develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance to improve system reliability and extend equipment life.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records.

Electrical Systems (Secondary Support)

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, lighting, outlets, motors, fans, boilers, and HVAC equipment.
• Assist with the maintenance of campus fire alarm systems.
• Support installation and maintenance of electrical systems throughout campus.

General Maintenance

• Complete minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Perform basic carpentry work, including repairs to doors, locks, furniture, and fixtures.
• Assist with seasonal snow removal and other campus maintenance projects.
• Complete work orders efficiently while providing exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

 

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous HVAC experience.
• Refrigeration license.
• Working knowledge of refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Understanding of industry safety standards and best practices.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Positive attitude, reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electrical troubleshooting and repair.
• Experience with digital building controls and automation systems.

Physical Requirements

• This position requires the ability to:
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Work overhead and on ladders.
• Squat, bend, climb, and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks throughout the workday.
