Job description

Objective

To profitably increase the sale of Cone Distributing products in your area of responsibility by leading and directing the merchandising Department.

To provide training and supervision to your respective merchandising team.

To ensure Cone Distributing Merchandisers focus on:

  • Retail Call Standards
  • Merchandising Standards
  • Rotation and Code Date Standards

Responsibilities/Expectations

  • Lead and direct the merchandising department for the Tallahassee operation.
  • Mange 3 or more direct reports and a department of 14+ employees.
  • Has the ability to influence hiring and firing.
  • Has the ability to recommend promotions and assignments.
  • Responsible for the coaching, counseling, and disciplining of all assigned Team members.
  • Owns the communication flow from the department to the VP of Operations and Operations Manager Tallahassee. Communicates issues in a timely manner
  • The ability to sell and teach the selling functions to Merchandisers, MZMs, and Trainers. Must have a complete understanding of Team Cone's retail sales call standards.
  • Work in the training of new MZMs, Trainers, or merchandisers on the duties of a merchandiser, which include the following- Stocking of cooler shelves and enforcement of correct stocking policies, display building and maintenance, rotation of coolers and enforcement of Cone Distribution's rotation policy, quality control, including the removal of damaged product from selling areas and out-of-date policies, and back room organization and maintenance.
  • Teaching of code date interpretation.
  • Must have the ability to teach and work with the company's route accounting software.
  • Enforcement of company retail standards.
  • Ride with your MZM and trainers a minimum of twice a month to train, coach, and counsel on the execution of Cone Distributing merchandising and call standards.
  • The proper adherence to and the enforcement of Cone Distributing Inc. Disciplinary Policies.
  • Provide written or verbal feedback to each Merchandising Trainer and MZMs after each work-with and develop next steps to address all opportunities.
  • In addition to the daily activities of working with and the training of Merchandisers, Trainers and MZM's the Merchandising Manager will also assist in the proper follow up behind Merchandisers utilizing the Merchandising Audit, if needed.
  • The Merchandiser Manager will also be responsible for the scheduling of all weekend pull ups. The schedule will be posted 4 weeks in advance at both warehouses.
  • The Manager will be tasked to monitor and make all changes to the weekend schedule.
  • The merchandiser manager will also need to evaluate route effectiveness. If the route is unmanageable or too easy, the merchandiser manager will recommend changes to the routes to achieve effectiveness and seek advice from the Merchandising Trainers and MZM's
  • Will be tasked to add weekend service routes during key periods and holidays.
  • Responsible for the payroll of the department and payment to those on weekend pulls from other departments.
  • Conduct annual evaluations with each Merchandiser, Trainer and MZM. The Manager will assist the MZMs evaluations of their merchandisers.
  • Attend and participate in all sales meetings.
  • Attend assigned Monthly Management meetings two times a month, or as scheduled.
  • Conduct a team meeting with a written typed agenda a minimum of one time a month.
  • From time to time the merchandiser manager will be required to fill in on vacation routes when employees request time off. The manager will fill in for vacationing merchandisers and Trainers.
  • The merchandiser manager may also at times be asked to work with sales managers and key account managers to assist and or help coordinate manpower in major reset projects for our customers.
  • Participate in morning duty activities. Be sure to check in and speak to all direct reports each morning.
  • Ensure the execution of all chain, national and local sales & marketing programs in assigned chain accounts.
  • Maintain and enforce proper dress and appearance standards.
  • Inspection and maintenance of assigned equipment (breakdowns, hand trucks, phone etc.) and vehicle inspections. Report vehicle issues to the mechanic on duty immediately
  • Attend training programs when scheduled (possible Saturday dates TBD)
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding the sale and merchandising of malt beverages.
  • Maintain a safe driving record. Report any driving related issues to HR immediately.

Position Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of the brewing industry.
  • A sound understanding of related laws and regulations regarding the sale and merchandising of alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks within your area.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills for both internal and external communication. Must be able to communicate both with store personnel, delivery, and sales personnel, as well with members of Team Cone management.
  • Ability to work with PC data bases.
  • Some basic computer skill sets.
  • Ability to execute Cone Distributing Retail Call Standards and provide recommendations to subordinates that address all areas of opportunity.
  • The ability to operate mobile devices such as I-Phones, I-pads, laptops, etc.
  • Ability to provide a clear sense of priority, focus and team leadership as it relates to executing both business and personal objectives in self and subordinates.
  • Able to work weekends.
  • Class A CDL & current DOT Physical Card.
  • Able to pass drug and background check

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 Years Merchandising and/or Management experience.
  • 2 Year College degree preferred but not required. Will consider experience in the field
