The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps patients/residents with comprehensive and personalized health care needs under the supervision of a nurse. The CNA assists patients/residents with activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, toileting and exercising.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Nursing or CNA Supervisor, the CNAs work closely with the nursing staff to ensure coordination of patient care.
  • Provides physical support for patients/resident’s daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring to/from bed, toileting, walking, standing, or exercising.
  • Turns and repositions bedridden patients.
  • Ensures proper resident/patient diet based on their dietary restrictions.
  • Measures and records food and liquid intake.
  • Examines patients for open wounds, bruises, or blood in urine.
  • Notes and communicates patient/resident behavior and changes in mood.
  • Gathers medical supplies.
  • Cleans rooms and bed linens.
  • Checks and records vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Answers to patient calls and needs.
  • May aide patients being transported to and from appointments.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Skills and Abilities:

  • Good collaboration and teamwork skills with the nursing staff.
  • Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for a number of medical conditions.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • State Certified Nursing Assistant License/Certification.
  • Current CPR certificate or become certified within 90 days of employment, preferred. Some facilities may require this.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
  • Must be able to push, pull move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet 
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
