Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Director of Business Development in the below posting location. This role requires a high energy, creative thinker who likes to tackle new challenges, stretch boundaries, and drive business growth. We are looking for a candidate to exemplify senior leadership qualities and support our established architecture and engineering business in a variety of markets, including municipal, commercial, education, healthcare, research, and advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate must possess the drive to learn new topics, intellectual curiosity, and be able to dig deeply into technical topics to initiate new business. The role is at the intersection of business development and strategy and collaborates with all department heads and our talented marketing department. Success in this role involves creating new backlog across our front-range offices (Ft. Collins, Denver, and Colorado Springs), with a focus on the Denver area.

Job Activities: The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing:

Business Development
  • Leverage technical expertise, specialized skills, and knowledge to generate new opportunities through presentations, meetings, interviews, and thought leadership.
  • Collaborate with national and regional leadership to identify growth strategies for CO.
  • Unlock growth potential by collaborating, motivating, and training our project managers and individual contributors in ways to expand their networks and grow the business.
  • Implement growth strategies by attending client meetings, events, and conferences to build new relationships.
  • Utilize your strong personal network for generating new partnerships and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with national business development efforts, including strengthening partnerships and clients across the country.
  • Provide leadership and assist with client care efforts.
  • Qualify pursuits and evaluate their effect on related prospects. Establish priority for potential opportunities and their pursuit.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and presenting project proposals.
  • Assist in creative development of collateral within branding initiatives.
  • Develop and review key performance indicators.
  • Ensure pursuits (leads) are captured in our CRM system leading to capture and reporting of an accurate pipeline.
Strategic Planning
  • Working across our CO offices to develop near and long-term growth strategies.
  • Aligning strategies with the company’s strategic intent and our Strategic Action Plans.
  • Identify and evaluate key acquisitions, market expansion, and service line additions.
Specific Requirements include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field.
  • 10 plus years of experience in architecture/ engineering consulting or working with AE design services.
  • Self-starter requiring limited oversight.
  • Ability to give high-level presentations to internal and external groups.
  • Effective team building and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Ability to supervise and direct work of others.
  • Superb organization, time management, and the ability to work on several multi-discipline projects concurrently.
  • Encourage and support a safety-oriented culture.
  • Regional travel as required.

Salary Range

$120,000 - $186,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
