Landscape Construction Crew Member

Responsibilities/Duties

The Landscape Crew Member is responsible for performing labor and tasks necessary for the installation of landscape design elements. Individual assists other Crew Member(s) and Crew Leader with the transformation of design plans into quality landscape designs meeting or exceeding our customer expectations.

  • Preparation: Assist in the daily preparation of trucks and equipment, including loading and securing equipment, plants, and hardscape materials.
  • Planting: Perform the planting of trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials, as well as the installation of wood and stone mulch.
  • Installation: Install hardscapes, water features, lighting, and irrigation systems, including retaining walls, boulders, wall stone, pavers, etc.
  • General Tasks: Execute all tasks involved in installation such as digging, shoveling, raking, sweeping, pruning, watering, picking stones, and clearing debris.
  • Restoration: Restore existing landscapes to ensure they meet company standards.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload materials and supplies (requires lifting over 50 pounds).
  • Equipment Operation: Operate equipment such as trucks, Bobcats, compactors, trenchers, masonry saws, etc.
  • Hand Tools: Utilize hand tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, picks, brooms, etc.
  • Maintenance: Ensure daily maintenance of tools and equipment, including cleaning, sharpening, greasing, and fueling.
  • Site Cleanup: Complete the cleanup of work sites to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Seasonal Duties: Assist with snow removal during the winter months as business needs dictate.
  • Safety: Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Outdoor Work: Work is primarily performed outdoors throughout all seasons.
  • Weather Exposure: Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather such as rain, snow, heat, or cold.
  • Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties involving equipment operation that exposes the individual to elevated noise levels.
  • Chemical Exposure: Duties may expose the individual to chemicals and fertilizers.

Schedule

  • Peak Season Hours: Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during our peak season (approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.
  • Full-time Seasonal Position: This is a full-time seasonal position.
  • Overtime: Occasional overtime as workload dictates.
  • Winter Hours: Hours vary in the winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal needs.

Skills You Need

  • Landscaping Experience: Previous experience with or ability to learn effective landscaping skills and techniques.
  • Equipment Operation: Previous experience operating equipment (loader, bobcat, skid steer, or other used in landscape installation) is helpful but not required.
  • Product Knowledge: Knowledge of trees, shrubs, and other landscape products is helpful but not required.
  • Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
