Hiring Incentive: $1,000*

Eligible full-time hires will receive $250 in their first paycheck and $750 in the first paycheck following successful completion of six months of employment.

Associates must remain employed and in good standing at the time of each payment. Payments are prorated for part-time hires.

The Opportunity

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-driven Medical Assistant to join our Canton Center full-time, working 37.5 hours per week.

Union Status: Bargaining Unit Position
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

About the Role

The Medical Assistant supports patients throughout their health center experience by providing compassionate clinical assistance, patient education, and administrative support. This position works closely with clinicians and other health center team members to prepare patients for visits, assist with examinations and procedures, perform laboratory testing, maintain accurate medical records, and help ensure visits move efficiently.

The ideal candidate is organized, attentive, and comfortable discussing sensitive healthcare matters in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to providing high-quality reproductive healthcare and excellent patient service.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Patient Care and Clinical Support

  • Welcome patients, explain what they can expect during their visit, and communicate information about delays or next steps.
  • Gather and document relevant medical and social history.
  • Measure and document vital signs, including height, weight, and blood pressure.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist clinicians during exams and procedures.
  • Perform venipuncture and approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administer medications within the scope of your training, certification, or licensure.
  • Provide accurate patient education about available services, contraceptive options, consent forms, funding resources, and follow-up needs.
  • Prepare examination rooms and maintain appropriate supplies, inventory, cleanliness, and safety standards.

Scheduling and Administrative Support

  • Respond to patient calls, schedule appointments, and provide appropriate information and referrals.
  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient registration, medical record, laboratory, scheduling, and payment information.
  • Use electronic systems to document visits, collect fees, and provide receipts.
  • Provide patients with the appropriate forms and review them for completion.

Teamwork, Quality, and Compliance

  • Collaborate with clinicians, health center leadership, and other team members to provide coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Anticipate patient and provider needs and contribute to a positive health center experience.
  • Maintain confidentiality and approach sensitive healthcare matters with compassion and without judgment.
  • Follow organizational policies, current medical standards, and HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
  • Participate in required training, quality improvement, risk-management activities, and staff meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an advanced medical assistant training program or a Certified Medical Assistant credential.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, judgment, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work some Saturdays.
  • Strong commitment to high-quality healthcare and respectful, nonjudgmental patient service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical assisting practices and reproductive healthcare.
  • Experience using an electronic health record or patient scheduling system.
