Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Investment Banking Product Controller to join the Finance function supporting the Investment Banking business The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate revenue recognition, deal accounting, P&L reporting, balance sheet substantiation, reconciliations, and financial control across a broad range of Investment Banking products and fee-based businesses. This role demands strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional control discipline, a strong understanding of Investment Banking products, including advisory, M&A, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, leveraged finance, private capital, and related fee-based businesses and clear communication skills to convey financial insights to both Finance non-Finance senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end financial control of Investment Banking transactions across advisory, M&A, DCM, ECM, leveraged finance, private capital, and other fee-based businesses.
  • Review deal economics, fee structures, engagement terms, billing arrangements, expense allocations, and settlement mechanics.
  • Partner with Investment Banking teams, Accounting Policy, FP&A to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review engagement letters, fee letters, underwriting agreements, financing documentation, and other deal-related documentation from a Finance and control perspective.
  • Monitor deal lifecycle events from mandate through execution, billing, revenue recognition, settlement, and close-out.
  • Ensure timely, accurate recording of fees, accrued/deferred revenues, and receivables in compliance with US GAAP and internal policy. 
  • Produce, validate, and report T+1 P&L and key controls; reconcile P&L to Front Office and explain variances. 
  • Prepare month-end journals, reconciliations, accruals, reporting packs, and detailed balance 
  • Own balance sheet substantiation for Investment Banking accounts - including receivables, payables, deferred income, accruals, suspense accounts, and deal-related balances. 
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve aged breaks, settlement differences, billing discrepancies, and unreconciled items. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years in Product Control, Financial Control, Accounting, or Finance within an investment bank, broker-dealer, or financial services institution.
  • Strong knowledge of Investment Banking products, including advisory, M&A, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, leveraged finance, private capital, or related fee-based businesses.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Experience engaging with Front Office and senior stakeholders in a high-pressure environment. 
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related discipline. 
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA) a plus.

Primary Location: Jersey City Full Time Salary Range of $100,000-$140,000.

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual's experience level and qualifications.
