Assistant Hygienists are dental professionals who work under the supervision of licensed dental hygienists or dentists to support oral health care. Their duties typically include preparing exam rooms, sterilizing instruments, assisting with dental procedures, and providing patients with basic oral hygiene instructions. While they do not perform advanced dental cleanings or diagnose conditions, Assistant Hygienists play a key role in ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort in a dental office. Ongoing training in the latest dental technologies and procedures can also make it easier to handle daily tasks efficiently and stay current in the field.

What does a dental hygiene assistant do?

A dental hygiene assistant supports licensed dental hygienists by preparing treatment areas, sterilizing instruments, and assisting during patient cleanings and procedures. They may also handle patient records, provide oral health education, and ensure infection control protocols are followed. Certification or training in dental assisting is often required for this role.
