Cafeteria Assistant I (Helper/Monitor)
Food Services Department, Lake Station Community Schools
May work at any Lake Station Community Schools' school cafeteria, Lake Station, IN 46405 
The Lake Station Community Schools Food Service Department is seeking CAFETERIA ASSISTANT (HELPER/MONITOR) applicants to work in its scool cafeterias.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Serve food and support cafeteria operations.  
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:
1.    Display an attitude that is a positive contribution to Food Services.
2.    Be professional always and perform with student's best interest in mind; and interact positively with students, staff, etc.
3.    Be punctual; is ready and at assigned position to work at posted shift time.
4.    Wear clean, shirt/pants, pants/shoes, black non-skid shoes, etc.
5.    Take direction well from management.
6.    Be flexible in job duties.
7.    Observe proper sanitation procedures.
8.    Avoid cross contamination wash hands, wear gloves, etc.
9.    Support the HAACP Polices take temps with Biotherms, inspect deliveries, etc.
10.  Minimalize waste rotate stock, use FIFO, watch par levels, etc.
11.  Operate all kitchen equipment properly, note service needs, etc.
12.  Keep work area clean during serving and clean up.
13.  Lifting, and putting away deliveries.
14.  Support a safe working environment.
14.  Perform all other duties as assigned.
Wage rate:  $13.50 - $14.10 / hour (depending upon experience)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Employee must demonstrate the skills and abilities listed below.  Must have good moral character and ethical code.  Serves as a role model for students and adults.  Can take direction and has organizational skills.  Is self-directed and enjoys working with people.
Education and/or Experience:  High School Diploma or GED. Previous experience in nutrition service is preferred. ServSafe certification is preferred (but not required).
Language Skills: Adequate verbal and written language skills. Ability to communicate with peers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform four basic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:  Ability to follow directions.  Ability to apply common sense to problem situations. 
Other Skills and Abilities:  Be punctual, reliable, trustworthy, loyal, and enjoy school atmosphere.  Must have general computer operational skills.
Physical Demands:  The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of the job, this employee is required to sit and talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee may also have to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.  Employee will have to climb a ladder.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment/Conditions:  The work environment will commensurate with a kitchen or cafeteria designed for serving larger groups.
