ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding college of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate institutions and two graduate institutions in Claremont, CA, on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. Pomona College has a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum spanning the arts, humanities, social sciences, math and sciences, emphasizing critical thinking and high-impact practices. Pitzer College, established in 1963, was founded as an innovative liberal arts institution, initially specializing in social and behavioral sciences, but has since expanded to other fields. Pitzer's academic programs emphasize social justice, intercultural understanding, and environmental sensitivity. The 21 varsity Pomona-Pitzer Athletic teams comprise of students from both colleges, and compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the NCAA Division III. The Colleges have a combined enrollment of 2,600 students.

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include assisting the head coach & assosciate head coach with:

  • Coaching breastroke and butterfly athletes on Monday & Thursday's during the competitive season

  • Coach competitions during the competitive season

  • Assist with pre-season, in-season, and post-season training and planning.

  • Analyze performance of teams and individuals.

  • Provide leadership advice and instruction to coaching staff

  • Evaluate opponents and develop competition strategies.

  • Assist Head Coach and Associate Head Coach with other related work as needed.

Assistant should be familiar with, and work to remain compliant with, college, SCIAC, and NCAA DIII rules and procedures. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

POSITION DETAILS: Temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this role is $16.90. Hours will vary throughout the year and are negotiable within a range of 5-10 hours expected during the varsity season.

ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT DUTIES:

None

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required; previous playing or coaching experience is required. Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

REQUIRED HOURS: Should be available for weekend hours during the season.
