Job Purposeย 

Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club'sย Golf Courseย Assistantย Superintendentย is responsible forย coordinating daily maintenance activities,ย supervisingย and developing staff,ย maintainingย established course-conditioning standards, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and with exceptional attention to detail.ย This opportunity is ideal forย individuals that want to continue to learnย bentgrassย playing surfaces and ryegrass roughs. Job Summary (Essential Functions)ย 

  • Coordinate and supervise daily golf course maintenance operations, adjusting staffing, equipment, assignments, andย prioritiesย based on weather, golf schedules, course conditions, and agronomic needs.ย 

  • Lead, train, coach, and develop employees,ย establishingย clear expectations,ย maintainingย accountability, andย providingย timelyย feedback.ย 

  • Regularly inspect the golf course to assess turf health, playing conditions, presentation, cleanliness, and quality of workย completed.ย 

  • Assistย with development and implementation of agronomic programs including mowing, irrigation, cultivation, aerification, topdressing, fertilization, plant protection, moisture management, and pest management.ย ย 

  • Monitor irrigation systems, soil moisture, drainage, and turf conditions,ย identifyingย deficienciesย andย assistingย with corrective actions.ย ย 

  • Ensure pesticide, fertilizer, and plant protection applications are conducted safely and in compliance with product guidelines, relevant regulations, Club policies, and best practices.ย 

  • Assistย with daily course setup and preparation for member play, tournaments, Club events, etc.ย 

  • Maintain consistently exceptional course conditions.ย 

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper equipment operation, chemical handling,ย requiredย personal protective equipment, and compliance with Club safety procedures.ย ย 

  • Assist with staffing, employee evaluations, performance management, scheduling, timekeeping, and other personnel-related responsibilities.ย ย 

  • Assistย with departmental budgeting,ย purchasing, inventory management, recordkeeping, application records, and daily maintenance documentation.ย ย 

  • Coordinate with the Mechanicย regardingย equipment availability, repairs, preventive maintenance, and operational priorities.ย ย 

  • Maintain clean, organized, safe, and professional maintenance facilities, equipment, vehicles, and work areas.ย ย 

  • Protect the Club's investment in the golf course, irrigation infrastructure, equipment, landscaping, and facilitiesย through proactive maintenance and sound operational and agronomic practices.ย ย 

  • Utilize course observations, moisture data, weather conditions, irrigation performance, application records, and turf responseย to support informed, data-driven agronomic decision-making.ย ย 

  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendent, departmental supervisors, Golf Operations, and other Club departmentsย regardingย course conditions, staffing, projects, equipment, and operational priorities.ย ย 

  • Lead by example and foster a culture of professionalism, ownership, accountability, teamwork, and pride, ensuring employees understand both the work to be completed and the standards expected.ย ย 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Agronomy Department and Club's operationalย objectives.ย 

Qualificationsย 

  • Educationย 

    • Associates orย Bachelor'sย degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, orย a relatedย field preferred.ย Equivalent education, training, and experience may also be considered.ย ย 

  • Certifications/Licensureย 

    • California Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL), or ability to obtain within the requiredย timeframe.ย 

    • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.ย ย 

  • Experienceย 

    • 2+ย years of progressive golf course maintenance experienceย required,ย priorย supervisory experienceย preferred.ย 

    • Prior experience in a private club, resort, or similar environment.ย ย ย 

  • Skillsย 

    • Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and communication skills.ย 

    • The ability to effectively supervise, train, motivate, and develop employees.ย 

    • Working knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, fertilizers, pesticides, golf course equipment, and course setup.ย 

    • The ability to visually evaluate turfgrass health, playing conditions, presentation, and work quality.ย 

    • Sound judgment and practical problem-solving abilities.ย 

    • The ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing weather, staffing, golf schedules, and operational demands.ย 

    • Basic computer and administrative skills necessary for scheduling, recordkeeping, budgeting, and departmental communication.ย

Work Schedule and Hoursย 

This is a full-time, exemptย positionย requiring a flexible schedule based on course conditions, weather, staffing, tournaments, and Club events.ย Weekendย and holiday availabilityย isย required.ย 

Physical Requirements and Work Environmentย 

This position requires frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and prolonged sun exposure. This position requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and occasionally life, carry, push, and pullย equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. This role also requires the ability toย operateย and work aroundย turfย maintenance equipment, vehicles, chemicals, fertilizers, and other materials.ย  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.ย 

Compensationย 

This is an exempt, salaried position with an annual salary range ofย $90,000-110,000 per year. Starting compensation will beย determinedย based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.ย
