Job Title: Genomics Technician
Location: Chicago, Illinois 60613
Work Mode: Onsite
Duration: 6 Months
 
Job Description
The Genomics Technician is responsible for operating laboratory equipment, supporting NGS sample processing, maintaining technical and administrative support for research projects, and assisting with facility operations.
 
Required Qualifications
Education
  • College or university degree in a related field.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3–6 months of prior experience in a genomics research lab setting.
 
Responsibilities
  • Operate sample QC equipment, including Fragment Analyzer, Bioanalyzer, Qubit, and qPCR instruments.
  • Operate sequencing equipment, including Illumina NovaSeq and Element AVITI.
  • Perform NGS sample intake, QC, and processing through sequencing.
  • Operate additional core platforms as guided.
  • Process new work/projects and associated communication.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for research projects.
  • Analyze and maintain data and/or specimens.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist with reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Install, set up, and perform experiments.
  • Interact with students and laboratory staff under direction.
  • Provide supplementary assistance to other teams as needed.
 
Experience
  • Less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong sense of work ownership.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform lab-based tasks for extended periods.
 
Additional Information
  • Overtime is rare but may be required based on research needs.
