Job description

Our client is a leader in the fire protection industry. We are looking for a Fire Sprinkler Designer, responsible for producing code-compliant, constructible fire sprinkler system designs from concept through permit approval and construction support.ย

Self-directed designer with deep knowledge of NFPA standards, strong field awareness, and proven experience using AutoSprink and / or Revit in a production environment. This role requires ownership of design quality, coordination, and constructability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
ย 
Design and layout fire protection sprinkler systems-including wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, and tank systems-using specialized CAD software based on the AutoCAD (AutoSprink) and Revit. --AutoSprink experience highly desired.
Coordinate sprinkler system piping with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical building components.
Perform hydraulic calculations and convert design dimensions into fabrication-ready measurements.
Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
Apply applicable NFPA standards based on building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
Prepare complete design submittal packages and manage correspondence required to obtain design approvals and permits.
Review work orders, scope sheets, and procedural manuals to determine critical design requirements.
Prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendors and requisition materials as needed.
Conduct field surveys and field checks to verify design accuracy and suitability for installation.
Assist field personnel with design-related installation questions and resolve design issues during construction. Coordinate with Estimation, Design Management, Operations, and other internal teams to meet project schedules and delivery dates.
Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades to ensure compliance and coordination.
Support permitting and inspection processes, including preparation of required documentation.
Participate in pre-design, coordination, and review meetings.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and quality enhancement.
Prepare and submit final job close-out documents following acceptance testing.
Adhere to company safety policies and maintain a professional, customer-focused approach.

Skills & Competencies

5+ years of fire protection design experience.
Proven experience with AutoSprink or HydraCAD and / or Revit.
NICET Level III-IV certification in Water-Based Systems Layout preferred.
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, and related standards.
Experience with BIM coordination and designing fire sprinkler systems across multiple system types and manufacturers.
Strong understanding of NFPA standards and applicable codes (IFC, IBC, NEC).
Ability to visualize 3D concepts and solve mathematical problems involving geometry and algebra.
Skilled in reading and interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
Maintain accurate, auditable records and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
Ability to obtain and maintain required national, state, and local licenses.
Ability to travel in area as needed.
