Senior Accountant / Comptable senior(e)


Gillespie-Munro Inc. (GMI) is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team in Montréal, reporting directly to the President.

This position will take ownership of key accounting functions, including general ledger management, account reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll and tax compliance, cash flow monitoring, internal controls, audit preparation, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the general ledger and day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Complete and review monthly account reconciliations and month-end procedures.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports and statements for management.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Process and review payroll and ensure payroll-related requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure tax filings, government remittances, source deductions, and other compliance requirements are completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Monitor cash flow and communicate significant variances or concerns to management.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and appropriate audit trails.
  • Perform quality control reviews of accounting entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Review the work of junior accounting staff or clerks and provide feedback, guidance, and support.
  • Assist with budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules for year-end audits and external reviews.
  • Maintain and support internal controls and ASPE compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and improved accuracy.
  • Assist with implementing improved accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Work closely with management and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Support management with financial information and analysis for business decision-making.
  • Take on increasing financial and leadership responsibilities as you progress toward a Controller-level position.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as required.


You Have

  • Fluency in both French and English is required, including reading and writing.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or actively enrolled in the CPA program is required.
  • Previous experience in senior accounting or full-cycle accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger management, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with payroll and tax compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and ASPE.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Experience reviewing, mentoring, or providing guidance to junior accounting staff is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite is an asset.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, or a related industry is an asset.
  • Demonstrated interest in career growth and developing toward a Controller role.

Responsabilités principales

  • Gérer le grand livre et les activités comptables quotidiennes.
  • Effectuer et réviser les rapprochements de comptes mensuels et les procédures de fin de mois.
  • Préparer des rapports et états financiers précis pour la direction.
  • Gérer les processus de comptes fournisseurs et comptes clients.
  • Traiter et réviser la paie et veiller à ce que toutes les exigences liées à la paie soient respectées avec exactitude et dans les délais.
  • Veiller à ce que les déclarations fiscales, remises gouvernementales, retenues à la source et autres exigences de conformité soient effectuées correctement et dans les délais prescrits.
  • Surveiller les flux de trésorerie et communiquer à la direction toute variation importante ou tout problème potentiel.
  • Maintenir des dossiers comptables précis ainsi qu’une piste d’audit appropriée.
  • Effectuer des contrôles de qualité des écritures comptables, des rapprochements et des pièces justificatives.
  • Réviser le travail du personnel comptable junior et fournir rétroaction, conseils et soutien.
  • Participer à la préparation des budgets, prévisions et analyses financières.
  • Préparer les documents et les échéanciers nécessaires aux audits de fin d’année et aux examens externes.
  • Maintenir et soutenir les contrôles internes et la conformité aux normes ASPE.
  • Identifier les possibilités d’amélioration des processus, d’efficacité et d’exactitude.
  • Participer à la mise en œuvre de procédures comptables améliorées et de meilleures pratiques.
  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec la direction et les autres services afin d’assurer la transmission d’informations financières exactes et en temps opportun.

Profil recherché

  • Maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit.
  • Formation postsecondaire en comptabilité, finance, administration des affaires ou dans un domaine connexe.
  • Titre de CPA ou inscription active au programme de CPA requise.
  • Expérience antérieure en comptabilité senior ou en comptabilité de cycle complet.
  • Solide connaissance de la gestion du grand livre, des rapprochements, de la paie, des comptes fournisseurs/clients et des rapports financiers.
  • Expérience en matière de paie et de conformité fiscale.
  • Solide compréhension des principes comptables et des normes ASPE.
  • Grand souci du détail et de l’exactitude.
  • Excellentes compétences en organisation et en gestion du temps.
  • Capacité à gérer un volume de travail élevé et à respecter les échéances.
  • Excellentes aptitudes en communication et en relations interpersonnelles.
  • Capacité à travailler de façon autonome et à prendre en charge ses responsabilités.
  • Expérience en supervision, révision ou mentorat de personnel comptable junior, un atout.
