Job description

General Summary:
The Farm Maintenance Technician supports the mechanical and electrical maintenance needs of farm equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and improvement of equipment performance. The ideal candidate works with a strong commitment to safety & teamwork.
This position reports to the Farm Manager and primarily works Monday through Friday on the day shift, with flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on farm equipment and support systems to minimize downtime
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues and perform minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Work closely with farm staff and outside vendors to service, maintain, and repair equipment
    • Assist in identifying replacement parts and maintaining appropriate inventory levels
    • Inspect equipment and monitor performance before and during operation to ensure quality and reliability
  • Apply working knowledge of motors, pumps, rotating equipment, VFDs, AC/DC circuits, plumbing, piping, carpentry, and related maintenance skills to resolve equipment issues
  • Develop new skills and assist in cross-training team members
  • Maintain a safety-first approach; follow company policies & applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment through good housekeeping practices
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment; identify opportunities to improve equipment operation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

Requirements
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred (not required)
  • Mechanical and/or electrical coursework or certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license required

Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of maintenance technician experience or a related field
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, including tractors and other farm machinery
  • Experience with plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems preferred (not required)

Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements:
  • Lift and move up to 40 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and climb for up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work safely in hot, cold, wet, and dusty environments with temperatures ranging from approximately 35ยฐF to 100ยฐF.
