We are aggressively hiring for this critical role.

Role Description

NEC Group is seeking a highly motivated, full-time, on-site Environmental Project Engineer based in Irvine, CA. This role is essential for delivering mission-critical remediation consulting services.

The Project Engineer will work directly with key clients, including the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), the California State Water Resources Control Board, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

You will gain diverse experience across all aspects of remediation, including site mobilization planning, system design, system installation, operation and maintenance, as well as site reporting and data analysis. Specifically, you will work with systems such as Soil Vapor Extraction, Groundwater Treatment, and Soil Abatement. We are looking for a flexible, team-player who is detail-oriented and has strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities / What You'll Do

• Provide field-based task implementation and oversight of environmental investigation and remediation projects, including environmental compliance sampling activities.

• Design and oversee the operation and maintenance (O&M) of remediation systems.

• Oversee field work to ensure projects adhere to work plans, specifications, and regulatory operating permits.

• Conduct environmental compliance sampling activities.

• Review and oversee field activities to ensure compliance with regulatory regulations, including AQMD, SWPPP, WDR, and hazardous material/waste regulations.

• Gather, analyze, and interpret O&M data.

• Write technical reports, design reports, specifications, and proposals.

• Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and quality.

• Mentor junior staff and foster team development.

• Note: Field work will be required, and an acceptable driving record is a must.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

• Minimum of 3+ years of related experience in environmental consulting or remediation projects (including field data collection and technical writing).

• High proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel).

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing effectively with clients, regulators, project teams, and upper management.

• Strong organization and record-keeping skills; strong attention to detail.

• Good safety record and understanding of safe work practices.

Preferred Qualifications (Competitive Edge)

• Professional Engineer (PE) license (registration in California preferred).

• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current with 8-hour refresher courses.

• Experience with California Environmental Regulations (DTSC, Water Board, CUPA, etc.).

• Experience with engineering design programs such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D/Bentley/Revit (though not required, exposure is a plus).

• Proven project management or assistant project management (PM) experience.
