Position: Environmental Coordinator (Muscatine, IA)

Job Overview:

The Environmental Coordinator works closely with local operations staff and management to ensure full compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and the company’s environmental management system (EMS), certified to the ISO 14001 standard. This role also provides environmental compliance support to other company facilities as directed by the Environmental Manager. This is a direct-hire position.

What you will be doing as a Environmental Coordinator…
  • Support facility environmental compliance activities required by permits and written environmental programs through collaboration with operations and engineering teams and by conducting routine inspections of steel mill operations and other assigned facilities.
  • Assist operations in meeting environmental management requirements, including incident investigation, training and communication, inspections, auditing, hazard assessments, and regulatory implementation.
  • Maintain and manage all documentation required by environmental permits, regulatory standards, and internal company environmental programs, including air emission records, waste manifests, discharge monitoring reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Maintain and update procedures within the company’s ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS), including training requirements, monitoring and auditing activities, and corrective actions.
  • Collect environmental data and conduct sampling and inspections required to complete regulatory reporting; assist the Environmental Manager with preparation and submission of reports to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Verify and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all operational products to ensure compliance with chemical inventory management, reporting, spill response, and notification requirements.
  • Participate in professional training, industry association meetings, and internal environmental committee meetings to maintain awareness of regulatory and industry developments.
  • Serve as the on-site coordinator during reportable environmental incidents and function as Emergency Coordinator in the absence of the Environmental Manager.
  • Conduct periodic audits of contractors and contractor facilities to ensure compliance with company environmental policies and procedures.
  • Act as the point of contact for regulatory inspections by local, state, or federal agencies when the Environmental Manager is unavailable.
  • Perform routine environmental inspections and audits to verify compliance with regulations, permits, and internal environmental programs.
  • Provide backup support to the Safety Department as needed.
