Assistant Port Engineer / Maintenance Analyst

Job Summary
This pivotal role supports vessel maintenance operations, technical management, and computerized maintenance system administration for a fleet of ocean-going vessels. Combining hands-on port engineering support with maintenance tracking and reporting, this position offers an excellent opportunity for candidates with a marine engineering background to grow within shore-side vessel operations and technical management.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Port Engineer with maintenance, repair, and technical oversight of assigned vessels
  • Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance planning for vessel machinery and equipment
  • Manage and maintain vessel data within computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Track maintenance activities, repairs, spare parts inventory, and technical documentation
  • Generate maintenance and operational reports to support contractual and operational requirements
  • Conduct vessel inspections and assist in identifying maintenance priorities and operational deficiencies
  • Coordinate with vessel crews, vendors, contractors, and shipyard personnel regarding maintenance activities
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues and minimizing vessel downtime
  • Support compliance with company safety management systems and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair histories, and equipment hierarchy documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or related technical discipline preferred
  • Sailing experience aboard commercial ocean-going vessels strongly preferred
  • USCG engineering license preferred (Chief Engineer, First Assistant Engineer, or Second Assistant Engineer)
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems such as ABS NS5, NS Enterprise, AMOS, or similar platforms
  • Strong technical understanding of vessel machinery systems and shipboard operations
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database/reporting systems
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced operational environment
  • TWIC credential required or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to obtain or maintain U.S. government security clearance may be required
