Position Summary
The Design Engineer works under the direction of a Project Manager and is responsible for day-to-day project work producing technical deliverables for traffic and transportation engineering projects.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare Traffic Impact Studies (TIS), Traffic Assessments, Access and Circulation Studies and transportation planning analysis
  • Conduct traffic operations analyses utilizing Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) methodologies
  • Perform traffic forecasting, capacity analysis, and level-of-service evaluations for intersections, roadways, and corridors
  • Prepare conceptual traffic engineering and transportation improvement plans
  • Design traffic control devices including signs, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control plans
  • Establish and monitor adherence to project schedule and budget
  • Provide all necessary coordination and follow-up on the work to ensure quality standards are met, efficiency levels are maintained and client satisfaction, respect and confidence are assured
  • Assist in the development of traffic control device design plans, including traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting and ITS plans
  • Create clear, concise technical reports and high-quality drawings, primarily using AutoCAD
  • Perform field duties outside of the office in support of projects, including traffic data collection and field verifications of existing and proposed traffic control device installations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Emphasis in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, and Highway Design courses are a plus
  • 1-3 years' experience in traffic/transportation engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain and operate a personal and/or company vehicle

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • General knowledge of other traffic engineering and planning tasks such as Traffic Impact Studies, Traffic Signal and Electrical Plans, Traffic Impact Studies, Alternative's analysis, and ability to assist in the preparation of same as needs arise
  • Working knowledge of relevant software packages including: Synchro, HCS, MicroStation, Corsim, VISSIM is a plus
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project
  • Familiar with AutoCAD
  • Familiar with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivating and positive personality with ability to grow with the company and contribute as business needs arise
  • Independent and critical thinking abilities
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with team members

The salary range for this position is $73k-$83k. The posted salary range reflects the anticipated hiring range for the position at the time of posting.
