The Vacancy

Position Summary

The Quality Test Engineer is responsible for supporting the quality, reliability, and performance of electrical and electronic products throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This position serves as a technical resource for Production, Engineering, and Quality by leading failure investigations, developing test methods, improving manufacturing processes, and driving corrective actions that improve product reliability and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate combines strong troubleshooting skills with a disciplined quality engineering approach and has extensive experience in electrical/electronics manufacturing environments.

Essential Responsibilities

Product Quality & Reliability

  • Investigate product failures originating from manufacturing, field returns, warranty claims, and customer complaints.
  • Perform detailed root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Lead and facilitate 8D investigations, 5 Why analyses, Fishbone diagrams, and other Root Cause Analysis techniques.
  • Develop, implement, and verify Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor corrective action effectiveness through data analysis and follow-up activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce defects, improve First Pass Yield (FPY), and lower Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).

Test Engineering

  • Develop, validate, and improve electrical and functional test procedures.
  • Support production test stations and troubleshoot test equipment issues.
  • Analyze electronic assemblies to determine failure modes and identify design or process improvements.
  • Assist Engineering with New Product Introduction (NPI), product validation, and production readiness.
  • Evaluate test coverage and recommend improvements to increase product reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Write clear and comprehensive test procedures, engineering reports, and technical documentation.

Manufacturing Support

  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Production and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Assist with disposition of nonconforming material and support Material Review Board (MRB) activities.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering to resolve product performance issues.
  • Support supplier quality investigations when component failures are identified.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) reviews.

Data Analysis

  • Analyze manufacturing and field quality data to identify trends and recurring issues.
  • Utilize statistical techniques to evaluate process capability, product performance, and corrective action effectiveness.
  • Develop quality metrics and dashboards for management review.
  • Perform Pareto analyses, trend analysis, capability studies, and reliability assessments.

Quality Management System

  • Support compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits and external certification audits.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining quality procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure documentation complies with company and regulatory requirements.

Calibration & Metrology

  • Support calibration activities for production and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of measurement uncertainty, traceability, and equipment suitability.
  • Work closely with the Metrology team to ensure measurement systems are capable and compliant.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical/electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with electrical and electronic assemblies.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing test systems and production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience performing failure analysis and product investigations.
  • Experience leading Root Cause Analysis using:
    • 8D
    • 5 Why
    • Fishbone (Ishikawa)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (preferred)
  • Experience implementing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of calibration and metrology principles.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience creating:
    • Test Procedures
    • Engineering Reports
    • Failure Analysis Reports
    • Work Instructions
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Minitab for statistical analysis.
  • Experience with SPC, Process Capability (Cp/Cpk), and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and electronics manufacturing processes.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP and Quality Management Systems.
