Job description

CLASS SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting in planning and operations of an assigned division. Responsibilities include supervising staff; monitoring and/or performing inspections; and managing projects, preparing engineering plans specifications and bid packages, conducting construction inspections, and related activities.

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1. Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; coordinating staff training; and supporting personnel procedures.
2. Monitors and/or performs planning, design, inspection, and other tasks related to roadway, bridge, sewer, water, building construction, and related capital improvement projects.
3. Reviews construction plans for compliance with standards and requirements.
4. Manages and administers capital improvement projects, including: resolving conflicts with contractors; managing contracts; managing compliance with plans and specifications; maintaining project budgets; and performing related tasks.
5. Assists in developing engineering projects; provides engineering guidance to related departments.
6. Responds to questions, concerns, and inquiries from the public, business owners, and others.
7. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 7 years of related experience orMaster’s degree with 7 years of related experience.  5 years of supervisory experience required.  Experience in design of sewer line, water main and street paving preferred.  Experience in auto cad drafting preferred.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
•    Registered Professional Engineer
•    Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

DURATION OF LIST:

This list will be in effect for a period of six months.
