Project Manager – Greater Chicago Area

General Responsibilities

The Project Manager provides overall leadership and management for one or more electrical construction projects. This includes establishing project objectives, organizing project teams, overseeing execution, and nurturing client relationships. The role requires strong strategic thinking, P&L accountability, and the ability to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and participate in project estimating, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Attend pre-bid project walkthroughs
  • Develop project strategy including budget, schedule, and client expectations
  • Communicate regularly with internal teams and clients
  • Manage project P&L and close gaps in gross profit margins
  • Schedule material releases upon approval
  • Collaborate with construction team to identify prefab opportunities
  • Implement LEAN and AGILE construction strategies
  • Manage project timeline and attend meetings throughout the project lifecycle
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits and establish cadence for team meetings
  • Prepare Method of Procedures and be present for shutdowns and cutovers
  • Coordinate manpower with superintendent and assist with inspection scheduling
  • Maintain a 6-week look-ahead schedule and assist in preparing Schedule of Values (SOV)
  • Review SOV/payment requests before submission
  • Ensure smooth transition of operations from preconstruction to completion
  • Deliver post-project reviews highlighting impacts and lessons learned
  • Report progress and projections to Project Executive
  • Foster positive client relationships and meet annual business and profit goals


Support Tasks (PM accountable, may be delegated)

  • Organize and manage all project documentation
  • Submit permit information to GC or Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
  • Review submittals for specification compliance
  • Submit RFIs and change order requests
  • Coordinate and manage subcontract agreements
  • Assist with project layout/design and BIM/CAD coordination
  • Support foreman with project execution and daily needs
  • Develop and track punch lists and commissioning requirements
  • Coordinate training and submit project closeout documentation


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and electrical plans
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and terminology
  • Experience preparing construction cost estimates and managing budgets
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and estimating software (e.g., Accubid)
  • Leadership and team-building capabilities
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency in Office 365, Bluebeam/Adobe, scheduling, and database tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, and professionalism


Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of eight years of experience in electrical construction required.


Location & Compensation

This position will be based in North Chicago. This is a full-time position that is available for immediate hire. A comprehensive compensation package will be developed for the successful candidate, which will include a base salary, a bonus plan, a car allowance or company vehicle, a 401(k) with company match, and comprehensive healthcare benefits. The company provides relocation assistance.
