Job description

What a day looks like

Step onto the floor of one of the world’s largest steel producers and into a role that keeps our operation moving. As an Electric Motor and Generator Rewind Technician, you’ll move between production and service units, operating tools and equipment to restore electric motors, generators, and transformers to peak condition.

Your shift might begin with a teardown: removing old or damaged copper windings, documenting the condition, and preparing cores. You’ll rewind coils with insulated copper wire, insulate and secure the coils, and solder or weld electrical connections. With reassembly complete, you’ll verify performance by testing voltage, resistance, and balance—making sure the unit runs correctly before it returns to service. Between jobs, you’ll assist with inspections and routine maintenance on equipment to keep the shop efficient.

Where you’ll work
  • Across various areas of the mill—conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
  • In proximity to materials that may be hot, heavy, or sharp, and around hazardous chemicals.
  • At times, you may work in close proximity to molten metal.
What you’ll handle
  • Remove old/damaged copper winding; rewind coils using insulated copper wire.
  • Insulate and secure coils; solder/weld electrical connections.
  • Test for proper function (voltage, resistance, balance); reassemble and confirm correct operation.
  • Assist in inspecting and performing maintenance on equipment.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including lifting more than 25 lbs.
Safety is non‑negotiable

Safety is our core value. You will consistently follow procedures and wear required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, boots with metatarsal protection, and, when necessary, a respirator.

Schedule and essentials
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Rotating 8-hour shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Overtime as needed.
  • Reliable punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction are critical to success.
  • Must pass a pre-employment digital assessment.
