Position Overview
The successful candidate will be skilled in the technical and regulatory aspects of ecological risk assessment and familiar with traditional upland remediation investigations. The successful candidate will interact with the senior management on the risk team and clients and assist with management of junior staff performing related field investigation activities. Project/client sectors may include petroleum/energy, legal, manufacturing, government/utility, real estate, insurance, and financial.
Candidate Qualifications/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Applied Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Chemistry, or similar.
  • 5+ years environmental consulting experience.
  • Strong project management skills
    • Manage junior staff and schedules.
    • Meet client budget needs.
    • Provide junior staff with training and mentoring opportunities.
    • Work with Principals and other senior professionals to scope, cost, plan, and execute ecological remedial investigation and risk evaluation services.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Effective verbal communications at all levels required.
    • Must be a strong, independent writer.
  • Relevant and quality work experience
    • Terrestrial and aquatic habitat assessment.
    • Benthic invertebrate inventory.
    • Ecological sampling workplan design.
    • Bioassay and bioaccumulation/tissue studies.
    • Bioavailability studies.
    • Dietary exposure modeling.
    • Ecological risk screening analysis.
    • Statistical analysis using USEPA ProUCL.
    • Familiarity with data visualization capabilities using geospatial software.
    • Familiarity with data management using Environmental Quality Information System (EQuiS).
    • Ecological remedial investigation and risk assessment reporting.
  • Regulatory agency experience
    • Understanding of USEPA and NJDEP ecological risk assessment protocols.
  • Staff training and mentorship
    • Willingness and ability to train junior staff with respect to technical requirements, regulatory programs, writing skills, and verbal communications.

Essential Duties
  • Manage project budgets.
  • Coordinate and oversee field investigation efforts, including field support staff.
  • Work with Principals and other senior professionals to scope, cost, plan, and execute ecological, risk assessment services.
  • Produce client-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Train junior staff with respect to technical requirements, regulatory programs, writing skills, and verbal communications.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Conditions
This position works in the field as well as the office environment. In the field, candidate will be working independently or leading a larger team at exterior project sites (i.e., industrial/brownfield facilities, monitoring wells, treatment systems, construction projects) to perform sample collection, recording of operational/meter parameters, and oversight of subcontractors (e.g., drillers, heavy equipment operators, truckers). These field activities require the ability to drive to different project sites and physically move around outdoors in various terrains, in adverse weather conditions and occasionally for extended or irregular hours. Conducting work involves the use of hand-held monitoring instruments and tools, as well as water sampling equipment, which requires the ability to routinely lift and carry objects, stand, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel and twist. Office work is primarily stationary/sedentary using a computer and keyboard/mouse requiring repetitive hand movements.
Base Salary Range: $79,500 - $100,000. This salary range is based on what Roux in good faith believes it might pay at the time of posting for this position and for this geographic location. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as relevant work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications, skill sets, and internal equity. In addition, this position is eligible for performance bonuses based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
