What would you do as aN Assistant Dive Safety Officer

As an Assistant Dive Safety Officer at Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium in Springfield, MO, your day-to-day responsibilities will include conduct diver training and certification, ensuring all divers meet required standards and regulations, review and approve dive plans to ensure safety and adherence to established protocols, maintain diving equipment to ensure good working order, develop and implement emergency response protocols for dive-related incidents, maintain accurate records of all dives, diver certifications, and training, stay up-to-date on the latest diving safety practices and technologies, facilitate communication between divers, dive teams, and other relevant parties, maintain knowledge base of diving industry standards, diving physiology, equipment, and techniques to ensure WOW's compliance with all relevant safety standards, will be required to correct any diving practice deemed unsafe as described in the WOW Safe Practices Dive Manual, will at times be required to be the department leader when Dive Safety Officer is unavailable, leads and assists daily husbandry diver operations both in and out of water will participate in routine husbandry dive operations within a variety of exhibits using a variety of dive modes, participate in cleaning, routine maintenance, and testing of all equipment and gear involved with SeaTREK and regular Dive Operations, utilize digital and online record keeping using Microsoft Suite and Dive Program in the Cloud (DPiC), establish and maintain an environment conducive to the health and safety of SeaTREK guests, participate in and assist with leading diver emergency trainings, initiate drills for SeaTrek operations to ensure safety and compliance, work closely with volunteer dive team members and staff, at times lead and complete their training, and maintain records, lead and complete some staff training and skill refresher classes, assist with keeping and updating all staff and volunteer training records, help maintain and build weekly dive schedules for Life Sciences department including volunteer schedules.

What matters most

To excel as an Assistant Dive Safety Officer at Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium in Springfield, MO, you should have at least 2 years in a full-time aquarium related Dive Operations position, hold at least an Open Water Instructor SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized training agency, current CPR/1st Aid, AED, and O2 Administration certifications from a nationally recognized training agency or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment, be able to become a SeaTREK Training Coordinator within 90 days of hire, be able to pass a diving specific health physical within 90 days of hire, be able to pass a Swim Test within 90 days of hire, be able to pass a Check-Out Dive within 90 days of hire, be able to comfortably lift 80 lbs, have no history of allergies related to animals, plants, and/or materials which may interfere with ability to work.
