Job description

Professional Internship (Assistant Sports Performance Coach)

Southern Virginia University Fall 2026 / Spring 2027

Responsibilities
  • Manage Open Gym hours and employees over cleaning and care of Open Gym
  • Actively coach and administer feedback to athletic teams and individuals
  • Under the direction of Sports Performance Director, design, and implement strength, speed, power, mobility programs for a minimum of 2 athletic teams across their sport seasons
  • Maintain punctuality, consistent attention to detail, and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • Supervision/assistance of safety during other team training sessions, assisting with daily administrative work, maintenance items, operations, and other duties as assigned
  • Uphold standards of excellence from the Sports Performance Department, as well as the Code of Honor associated with Southern Virginia University
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Kinesiology or jobโ€‘related field (NOTE: Encouraged to pursue online Masters during internship or actively preparing for a Masterโ€™s program in a related field)
  • 1 year of jobโ€‘related experience
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) completion is preferred but will consider candidates actively pursuing CSCS
  • Commanding presence and voice, a moderateโ€‘high understanding of sport and weight room related movements, punctual, respectable attitude, passion for sports performance and learning
Contracted

$6000* per semester for qualified personnel
*Opportunity for hourly wage during open gym hours
