Operating in a high-stakes, fast-paced NCAA Division I environment, this position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of program management, including technical skill instruction (such as hitting, pitching, or defensive specialist work), tactical game-planning, and the identification and recruitment of elite-level prospects. Beyond the field and batting cages, the Assistant Coach serves as a dedicated mentor committed to fostering academic integrity, personal accountability, and strict compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university regulations, ultimately helping to build a championship-caliber culture that elevates the institution's athletic profile.

Responsibilities
  • Player Development & On-Field Coaching Technical Instruction: Lead daily skill-development sessions and practices, specializing in a specific area (e.g., pitching/catching, hitting, or infield/outfield defense).
  • Game-Day Strategy: Assist the Head Coach with scouting opponents, developing tactical game plans, and making real-time adjustments during games (e.g., calling pitches, coaching third base, or positioning defense).
  • Video Analysis: Utilize softball-specific technology and analytical software to analyze player performance and scout upcoming opponents.
  • Off-Campus Recruiting: Travel to travel-ball tournaments, high school games, and showcase events to identify, evaluate, and recruit elite-level prospects.
  • Program Operations & Administration Team Travel Logistics: Coordinate team travel, including hotels, meals, ground transportation, and practice times on the road.
  • Equipment & Budgeting: Manage softball equipment inventory, apparel distribution, and coordinate with brand sponsors (e.g., Easton, Rawlings, Wilson) for gear orders.
  • Camps & Clinics: Plan, market, and direct youth softball camps and elite clinics to generate program revenue and assist in local talent identification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Required experience must include a proven track record of teaching advanced on-field technical skills (such as hitting, pitching, or defensive play), as well as hands-on experience navigating the Division I recruiting landscape and maintaining strict compliance with NCAA bylaws. Preferred candidates will have 3 to 5 years of collegiate coaching experience, experience using modern softball analytics and player-development software (such as Rapsodo, Synergy, or Yakkertech), and a background in coordinating team travel logistics and managing youth camps.
  • NCAA Compliance: Deep understanding of NCAA Division I rules, recruiting calendars, and compliance regulations.
  • Softball Technicalities: Advanced knowledge of fastpitch softball rules, strategies, and mechanics (e.g., pitching spins, hitting biomechanics, defensive schemes).

  • Communication & Recruiting: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to build trust with recruits, families, travel coaches, and campus stakeholders.
  • Logistics & Organization: Excellent time-management and organizational skills to handle team travel, equipment management, and camp coordination.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to motivate, guide, and support a diverse group of student-athletes, fostering both athletic success and personal growth.
