Job description

Department: MED-Radiation Oncology
Salary/Grade: NEX/11
Target hiring range for this position will be between $50,000 - $58,000 per year or per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Location: Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine
Lab Focus: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computational Automation in Radiation Oncology and Clinical Translation
About Our Lab: Our dynamic, interdisciplinary laboratory at Northwestern University is at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to revolutionize clinical workflows. We are building state-of-the-art computational infrastructure to automate and personalize care in radiation oncology, with research that has direct, impactful applications across multiple clinical domains. We aim to translate algorithmic innovations into tools that improve patient outcomes.
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and skilled Research Technologist II to join our team. This is a mentored position ideal for someone with a strong computational background who is eager to contribute to high-impact, translational AI/ML research. You will work directly with senior researchers and clinicians to develop, validate, and deploy deep learning models, playing a critical role in our mission to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI research and clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, train, and validate deep learning models (e.g., CNNs, vision transformers) for medical image analysis, including segmentation, outcome prediction, and motion compensation.
  • Assist in building and maintaining automated computational pipelines for large-scale medical image and data processing.
  • Collaborate on research projects leading to publications in high-impact journals and presentations at national conferences.
  • Contribute to the lab's computational infrastructure and data management systems.
  • Participate in the analysis and interpretation of complex multimodal clinical datasets.
Desired Skill Sets & Qualifications:
  • Required: Master's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience in Python programming and proficiency with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
  • Strongly Preferred: Experience with medical imaging data (DICOM, NIfTI) and libraries (ITK, SimpleITK, MONAI).
  • Strongly Preferred: Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, cloud computing (AWS/GCP/Azure), and containerization (Docker/Singularity).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and a passion for translational research.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
