The College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences here at South Carolina State University seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Science Education. The selected candidate will teach, conduct research, and contribute service. They will collaborate and assist in facilitating and evaluating teacher candidates in clinical field experiences. The faculty member must hold, and promote, high expectations for students and themselves. They must collaborate well with colleagues at SCSU and in the discipline, communicating effectively with stakeholders including school partners and administration. The faculty member must work closely with other university faculty in education across multiple content areas and several on-campus departments to ensure program quality while providing high-quality feedback, instruction, and assessment practices steeped in current research-based, effective teaching practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The faculty member will ensure superior clinical experiences are provided to teacher candidates and work well with school partners.
  • Assist PK-12 teachers in developing mutually co-beneficial, strategic partnerships to grow teacher-candidate practicum opportunities.
  • The faculty member must demonstrate an appreciation and promotion of diversity as a commitment to the School of Education and South Carolina State University and support state and national accreditation initiatives.

Minimum Requirements for entry into position:
  • Ph.D in Science with experience in K-12

Preferred Requirements for entry into position:
  • Ph.D. in Science Education
  • Demonstrated experience in the K-12 setting
  • Experience in teaching at the higher education level
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Supervise Math Education students during Field Clinical Experience
