Assistant Professor or Instructor of Computer Science
DEPARTMENT: Mathematics & Computer Science
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor or Instructor of Computer Science
SUPERVISOR: Dean, College of Science, Technology & Mathematics
PURPOSE: Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Instructor position in Computer Science. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in a wide range of undergraduate Computer Science courses and will be willing and able to teach undergraduate Information Technology (IT) courses, both on campus and online. LSUA is partnering with LSU Online to offer a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, and the new hire will play a vital role in this partnership.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
โ€ข Develop and teach undergraduate computer science and IT courses in face-to-face and online formats.
โ€ข Maintain high standards of instruction and utilize innovative teaching methods to support student success.
โ€ข Regularly hold office hours and provide academic support to students in person and
electronically.
Advise students on academic and career planning.
โ€ข Participate actively in university committees, meetings, and departmental initiatives.
โ€ข Contribute to curriculum development and review processes to ensure alignment with academic goals.
โ€ข Engage in scholarly activities.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean, Department Chair, or University Administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will be hired at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level depending on qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
โ€ข For the Instructor position: A master's degree in computer science or a closely related field, with at least 18 hours of graduate credit in the discipline.
โ€ข For the tenure-track Assistant Professor position: A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered if the Ph.D. is completed by the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
โ€ข Experience teaching a wide range of undergraduate computer science and IT courses.
โ€ข Demonstrated excellence in classroom and online teaching.
โ€ข Familiarity with or experience in online course development and delivery.
โ€ข Evidence of engagement in scholarly or professional development activities
