Job description

Job Description
Digital Forensics Analyst (Litigation & Investigations)
Central Florida (Orlando Area) Hybrid (Remote + On-Site + Travel) Full-Time
Who We Are
Cyber Centaurs is a specialized digital forensics and incident response firm focused on high-stakes corporate investigations, including trade secret theft, data exfiltration, and employee misconduct.
We are not building the largest firm; we are building a disciplined, high-performance team capable of delivering precise, defensible forensic results in legal and corporate environments. Our work regularly intersects with executives, legal counsel, and high-risk scenarios where accuracy and professionalism are non-negotiable.
The Opportunity
This role is designed for early-career digital forensics professionals who are serious about mastering the discipline.
You will work on real investigations involving computers, mobile devices, and digital evidence, while receiving direct mentorship from experienced forensic practitioners.
This is not a general IT or cybersecurity role. It is an investigative role requiring attention to detail, structured thinking, and a strong interest in forensic analysis and legal defensibility.
Over time, this position provides a clear path toward becoming a senior forensic examiner and, ultimately, a testifying expert witness.
Work Structure
  • Primarily remote, based in the Orlando / Central Florida area
  • On-site work required as needed for:
    • Device imaging at our downtown Orlando office
    • Client-site collections (local and occasional travel)
  • Travel may include regional or domestic trips (estimated up to 25%)
  • Workload may vary week-to-week depending on active cases

What You'll Do
Digital Evidence Collection
  • Perform forensic imaging of computers, external drives, and mobile devices
  • Maintain strict chain of custody and evidence handling procedures
  • Support both in-office and on-site collections

Forensic Analysis
  • Analyze forensic images to identify user activity, data access, and potential exfiltration
  • Examine Windows, macOS, and mobile artifacts
  • Assist in identifying relevant evidence in corporate investigations

Investigation Support
  • Contribute to trade secret theft and employee misconduct investigations
  • Assist with data review, keyword analysis, and artifact interpretation
  • Work closely with senior examiners on case strategy and findings

Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare clear, structured, and defensible forensic reports
  • Document methodologies, findings, and supporting evidence
  • Assist in preparing materials used in legal proceedings

Legal & Expert Support Exposure
  • Support development of affidavits and formal findings summaries
  • Gain exposure to litigation workflows and evidentiary standards
  • Assist senior examiners in preparing for legal review and testimony

Requirements
Experience & Education
  • ~2 years of experience in digital forensics, cybersecurity, or a related field
  • OR a Master's degree in Digital Forensics / Cybersecurity with relevant lab experience
  • Strong academic or hands-on foundation in forensic principles

Core Competencies
  • Understanding of:
    • File systems (NTFS, APFS, etc.)
    • Operating systems (Windows, macOS)
    • Basic forensic concepts (imaging, preservation, chain of custody)
    • Knowledge of Computer Hardware
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to work methodically and document findings clearly

Preferred (Not Required)
  • Exposure to tools such as AXIOM, Autopsy, FTK, EnCase, Cellebrite, Oxygen Forensics, or similar
  • Familiarity with mobile forensics concepts
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCE, CFCE, GCFE, GCFA)

Professional Traits
  • Detail-oriented and disciplined
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working on sensitive and high-stakes matters
  • Not a generalist, demonstrated interest in digital forensics as a career

Physical & Operational Requirements
  • Ability to handle and transport forensic equipment and storage devices
  • Willingness to travel as required for client engagements
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential data
  • Must be able to pass background checks where required for client engagements

Benefits
Why Join Cyber Centaurs
Mentorship & Growth
  • Direct mentorship from experienced forensic investigators
  • Structured development toward senior examiner and expert witness roles

Real Investigative Work
  • Work on meaningful corporate and legal investigations
  • Exposure to real-world cases involving data theft and misconduct

Specialized Career Path
  • Clear trajectory into litigation support and expert testimony
  • Hands-on experience rarely available at this stage in your career

Culture
  • Small, focused, high-performance team
  • No bureaucracy, emphasis on precision, accountability, and results

Benefits:
  • Medical
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid Holidays
  • Sick Leave
