Job description

This Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Construction Materials Testing Field Technician to join our Savannah, GA office to support construction materials testing and special inspection activities on a variety of infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and development projects. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on field work, problem solving, working outdoors, and learning the technical side of construction, geotechnical engineering, and materials testing.

The selected candidate will perform field testing, observations, sample collection, and documentation for construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, and related materials. Training will be provided, and the successful candidate will be expected to pursue applicable certifications as part of their professional growth

Your Impact

  • Perform field testing and observations for soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, and other construction materials in accordance with project specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Collect material samples and transport them to the laboratory for testing and analysis, as needed.
  • Document daily field activities, observations, test results, site conditions, and contractor work in clear, accurate field reports.
  • Communicate test results, field observations, and potential non-compliance issues to project managers, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Read and follow project plans, specifications, testing procedures, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operate, maintain, and properly care for field testing equipment and tools.
  • Follow company safety procedures and jobsite safety requirements at all times.
  • Participate in training and pursue technical certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, nuclear gauge safety, DOT testing certifications, OSHA 10-hour, or other applicable credentials.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0-2 years of related experience in construction, materials testing, inspection, engineering technology, or a related field; entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and material samples, typically up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier with assistance.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Work will primarily be performed outdoors on active construction sites and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, and construction equipment.
  • Local travel to job sites is required; occasional out-of-town travel may be needed depending on project assignments.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with team members, contractors, and clients.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter data and complete electronic field reports.
  • Willingness to work variable hours, including early mornings, evenings, overtime, and occasional weekends based on project needs.
  • Reliability - must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical training, or coursework in civil engineering technology, construction management, geology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience on construction sites, in quality control, laboratory testing, surveying, inspection, or related field work.
  • Existing certifications such as ACI, NICET, ICC, DOT, OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, nuclear gauge safety, or similar credentials.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and testing standards.
  • Interest in building a long-term career in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, construction services, or infrastructure quality assurance.
