Qualifications:

Educational Aide II certified

Knowledge of overall operation of color guard program, including dance, flag, sabre, & rifle techniques Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules

Ability to choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines Ability to instruct and supervise students

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide instruction and leadership to color guard performers, design color guard programs that enhance the visual and musical program using various styles to include dance, flags, and other props.
  1. Choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines, both as an integrated part to the marching band and as an independent unit.
  1. Assist campus band director in overseeing the day-to-day duties and operations of the color guard students.
  1. Provide for participation at extracurricular events, including football games, pep rallies, parades, fundraisers, UIL, and other events.
  1. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate.
  1. Oversee recruitment and selection of color guard members with director approval; ensure process is transparent, fair, and equitable.
  1. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  1. Coordinate rehearsals, competitions, and routines for independent performances and for performance integrated within the marching band. Communicate effectively with directing staff and students.
  1. Assist band director in the consideration of budget allocation based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective, and funds are managed wisely. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
  1. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
  1. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all school district rules, policies, and procedures.
  1. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  1. Accompany and supervise students during meetings, competitions, performances, service projects, and on out-of-town trips. Assist with arranging transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  1. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
