Position Summary

Aleut is seeking a number of safety-conscious part-time teammates to serve as School Crossing Guards at Peterson Space Force Base (SFB) to assist with before and after school bussing. They will be responsible to ensure pedestrian and motor traffic are safely coordinated.

Essential Job Functions

  • Providing reliable part-time coverage for all school days 0600 to 0900 and 1500 to 1700 Monday through Friday throughout the school year, not to include holidays, scheduled school breaks, weather down days, or non-instructional days as designated by the school district
  • Passing a background check for Peterson Space Force Base access and child protection
  • Successfully completing training based on the Colorado Department of Transportation School Crossing Guard Training Manual
  • Setting up traffic barriers and employing proper safety equipment (e.g. vest, stop signs, etc.)
  • Understanding the traffic laws, signs, and speed limits posted within a designated jurisdiction
  • Vigilantly watching for impending dangers to preclude potential incidents and accidents
  • Effectively communicating crossing rules and regulations to pedestrians and motor vehicle operators to ensure their mutual safety
  • Reporting unsafe behaviors and accidents
  • Serving as a school district role model

Work Environment

  • All work is on-site at Peterson SFB
  • Work is outdoors in all weather, including rain, snow, sleet, fog, cold, heat, dry, humidity, and wind. Teammates are expected to dress accordingly for the conditions.
  • Teammate must be situationally aware of speeding vehicles, and motorists and students that are not fully alert
  • Certain vehicles may create a noisy environment
  • Must be able to function effectively in momentary high-stress situations

Physical Demands

  • Must possess keen situational awareness
  • Must be able stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to provide effective verbal communications in English
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to carry up to 25 pounds

Salary Range

  • $19.00 to $20.50/hour depending on qualifications

Requirements:

  • Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: No specific requirements
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to pass a T-1 (Public Trust) clearance to enable Peterson SFB access
  • Background Check and Drug Screening: Candidates must successfully pass a background check and drug test.
  • Age: Crossing Guards shall be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • History: A qualified Crossing Guard cannot have a history of being removed from a prior Crossing Guard position, volunteer or otherwise.

Note this is a part-time position, so no benefits are offered with this position.
