Essential Job Duties

We're seeking an experienced Chief Architect to lead the architectural design of a robust, scalable, and secure technology platform. As the Chief Architect at BambooHR, you will be responsible for defining the architectural vision, prioritizing architectural and platform-level technology investments, and sponsoring growth of a high-performing architecture team. You will report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and work with VP's of engineering, developers, product, business intelligence, security and Information Technology (IT) teams. Your expertise in Software as a Service (SaaS) architecture, deep knowledge of cloud tech, and competencies in creating a strategic vision, will be the driving force of BambooHR's technology transformation, including the strategic integration and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives.

You will:

  • Architect robust, scalable, and ethical AI/ML systems and platforms, ensuring data governance, model lifecycle management, and responsible AI principles (e.g., fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy) are embedded from design to deployment.
  • Lead architecture modernization initiatives that deliver robust, secure, and scalable systems, including the integration of emerging technologies.
  • Make architectural decisions that balance short-term project goals with the overarching architecture vision and strategy, enabling effective engineering execution.
  • Oversee the design, implementation and integration of new technologies, including AI-driven solutions, into existing data structures and systems that support application development and business intelligence/analytics.
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Sponsor growth of a team of high-performing architects, cultivating innovation, continual improvement, and goal achievement through collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Engineering, engineering teams, operations, and product management to sustain alignment between architecture, technical solutions, and business requirements.
  • Ensure architecture design is compliant with industry standards and regulations related to data privacy and security.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in an architecture leadership role within a SaaS or technology company, with deep expertise in system design, modern web technologies, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related major or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and operating cloud-native architectures, including data platforms and architectures that support AI/ML workloads at scale.
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining architectural styles, patterns, and standards, with responsibility spanning engineering, IT, and security domains, including governance and security of AI/ML systems.
  • Strong passion for emerging technologies and modern architectural patterns, continuously evaluating their potential impact and proactively driving their adoption where they create clear business and engineering value.
  • Demonstrated success in guiding and motivating architecture teams, serving as a trusted and respected leader who can influence and inspire engineering peers and business partners.
  • Strong executive-level communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate architecture vision, strategies, decisions, and tradeoffs to a variety of audiences.
