As part of this team, you will assist in development of new and improved processes and measurements of fundamental properties and characteristics of alloy, ceramic, and glass materials, including radioactive materials being developed for storage and disposal of radioactive wastes, and development of material corrosion and waste form degradation models supporting regulatory acceptance for disposal.

As a part of this team, you will:

  • Synthesize alloy and glass-based materials, including radioactive materials using high-temperature furnaces.

  • Performing laboratory tests and measurements in glovebox facilities following established methods and procedures.

  • Applying technical standards, principles, and concepts to systems of various complexity.

  • Accurately recording data, maintaining spreadsheets, and performing calculations.

  • Contributing to timely completion of defined workscope and project deliverables.

  • Calibrating and maintaining equipment and facilities, including radiological gloveboxes and fume hoods.

Position Requirements

  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.

  • A formal education in materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field at the B.S. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.

  • Experience in using standard laboratory devices and equipment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of chemical and metallurgical concepts and conventions.

  • Demonstrated skill in preparing and handling test materials and analytical specimens.

  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and data management.
