Subject Matter Expert - Whole Building Airtightness Pressure Testing - Philadelphia, PA

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to many of the world's top-recognized brands and companies, is actively seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Whole Building Air Tightness Testing (WBAT), also known as a blower door test, to join our Building Science Solutions team. Intertek's Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on Acoustical Testing, Consulting and Noise Assessments, Building Enclosure Consulting, Commissioning, and Field Performance Testing for New Construction and Retrofit Projects; Forensic Services and Investigations; Insurance Services; Due Diligence Services, Property Resilience Assessments; Sustainability Consulting and Energy Services; and Building Enclosure Assurance, Consulting, and Testing Services.

What are we looking for?

As the WBAT SME, the primary responsibility is to lead Intertek's Building Science Solutions in advancing our Whole Building Airtightness Testing capabilities and technical excellence in the Mid-Atlantic region. This includes building and training a team and working with other WBAT professional through the company to drive technical consistency across projects, The role also involves preparing technical guidance materials, supporting thoughtleadership initiatives, attending key industry events, and collaborating closely with senior consultants across BECx and Building Enclosure service lines to support discipline growth and innovation. This position will require travel approximately 50% of the time.

Shift/Schedule: Full-time, Core Business Hours

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with the existing WBAT SME's to build, expand, and manage a national level training program for the Building Science Solutions group, primarily focused on Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing services. 
  • Build team and ensure staff is properly trained and supported in technical matters and processes. 
  • Lead and perform WBAT projects on medium to large sized projects
  • Lead and collaborate with BSS Technical Director and Senior Consultants to develop training sessions, SOPs, as well as standardization for work product and processes
  • Collaborate with Building Science Solutions operating unit managers to determine site-specific training needs
  • Assist in the development of internal technical resources including libraries, internal and external resources
  • Identify internal skills gaps within the Building Science Solutions practice and opportunities for innovation within the industry
  • Collaborate with staff on project-specific technical items
  • Assist in building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and design and construction administrative services for new building projects
  • Prepare proposals for potential new work
  • Assisting in meeting local profit center and BSS group financial goals
  • Prepare professionally written deliverables, including proposals, technical report, etc.
  • Assist with developing business and clients in the local area and assisting with national, larger pursuits outside of the local area

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 10+ years' experience primarily focused on Air Barrier & Whole Building Airtightness Testing (Blower Door Testing) 
  • Project management experience for a full range of project types
  • Extensive technical knowledge of all aspects of the Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing services
  • Experience with preparing scope and fee proposals for potential projects
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to meet changing and strict deadlines
  • Complete understanding of Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing standards including but not limited to ASTM E1186, ASTM E1827, ASTM E779, ASTM E3158, ISO 6781, ASTM E2178, ASTM E2357, ASTM 1060, ABAA master guide specifications, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, USACE Air Leakage Test Protocol for Building Envelopes v3, ISO 9972, etc.
  • Certified Level II Thermographer, minimum
  • Experience performing guarded testing
  • Experience performing blower door-assisted theatrical fog air leakage diagnostics
  • Experience performing intra-zonal differential pressure air leakage diagnostics 
  • Familiarity with LEED, Well Building, PHIUS, MA Stretch Code, etc. programs
  • Sound computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, FanTestic, and TECLOG4)
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • BS in engineering/ B. ARCH, or other related degree
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
  • ABAA Certified Air Barrier Specialist
  • ABAA Level II Blower Door Certification
  • GSA project experience
