Building Automation Installer
Position Summary Kelso Building Services is seeking a motivated Building Automation Installer to support the deployment of intelligent building control systems across commercial and industrial facilities. This role is responsible for installing field devices, routing and terminating control wiring, mounting equipment, and assisting with system integration activities. The ideal candidate enjoys working in the field, solving technical challenges, and collaborating with project teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions. Travel to customer sites and active job environments is a regular part of this position.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install building automation equipment including controllers, sensors, actuators, control panels, and related devices.
  • Route, terminate, and test low-voltage control wiring according to project requirements.
  • Interpret construction documents, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and installation drawings.
  • Assist control specialists during startup, checkout, and commissioning activities.
  • Mount enclosures, devices, and associated hardware while maintaining professional workmanship standards.
  • Verify proper system communication and perform basic troubleshooting of installation issues.
  • Coordinate work activities with electricians, HVAC contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installed equipment, material usage, and field modifications.
  • Promote a safe work environment by following company policies and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in technical training programs to expand controls and automation knowledge.

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience in building controls, HVAC installation, electrical construction, automation, or similar technical trades.
  • Understanding of low-voltage wiring practices and installation techniques.
  • Ability to read construction plans, diagrams, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with building automation communication networks and control systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with commercial HVAC controls or energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, IP-based networks, or other automation protocols.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or comparable safety certification.
  • Experience installing conduit, assembling control panels, or structured cabling systems.
  • Exposure to platforms such as Niagara, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Distech.
  • Ability to support commissioning activities and equipment checkout procedures.
