Skilled Laborer- Bridge

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Skilled Laborer- Bridge is responsible for the fabrication, installation and repair of concrete structures and structural structures used in and on bridges.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds forms used in bridges and other construction for pouring concrete,
  • Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers and straight edge,
  • Seals concrete and wooden bridges,
  • Mix and pours cement and mortar using hoe or concrete mixing machine,
  • Levels, smooth and finishes surfaces of poured concrete using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels and screeds,
  • Tighten structural steel bolts with impact wrench,
  • Remove existing structural steel with oxygen and acetylene torch,
  • Drill holes in existing or new structural steel with magnetic drill,
  • Assembling and disassembling all temporary structures and forms,
  • Digging trenches, removing filling, and/or compacting earth with use of shovels and rakes,
  • Loading and unloading materials and supplies,
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum five (2) years of experience working with bridges or heavy highway construction projects,
  • Must be able to work effectively at heights,
  • English preferred and Bilingual is acceptable,
  • Must have good communication skills,
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction materials, tools, equipment, and methods.
  • Must have a strong work ethic,
  • Valid driver's license, preferred,
  • Focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday,
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday,
  • This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
  • This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms,
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses),
  • Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions,
  • Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.
