Job description

Premier Cooperative is seeking a reliable, safety-focused individual to join our Lumber & Home Center team as a Boom Truck Operator & Lumber Delivery Driver. This position is responsible for delivering lumber, building materials, and construction products to customer job sites while operating a boom truck safely and efficiently. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our customers receive the materials they need, when and where they need them. Based on existing Premier Cooperative lumber delivery responsibilities and delivery driver expectations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Delivery & Transportation

  • Safely transport and deliver lumber, building materials, windows, doors, roofing products, and related supplies to customer locations.
  • Operate boom trucks and other delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Complete deliveries accurately and on schedule.
  • Secure and protect loads during transportation.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain delivery paperwork, invoices, and customer documentation.
  • Communicate delivery status and any issues promptly with the lumber team and customers.

Boom Truck Operation

  • Safely operate hydraulic boom equipment to unload materials at job sites.
  • Evaluate job site conditions and determine safe unloading procedures.
  • Properly position trucks and equipment to avoid property damage.
  • Follow all safety protocols when handling suspended loads and operating lifting equipment.
  • Assist customers and contractors with material placement when appropriate.

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly, professional service to contractors, farmers, homeowners, and commercial customers.
  • Build positive relationships through dependable deliveries and communication.
  • Address delivery concerns professionally and communicate issues to management.
  • Represent Premier Cooperative in a positive manner at all times.

Yard & Operations Support

  • Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Assist with inventory organization and yard maintenance.
  • Keep the lumberyard, warehouse, and delivery equipment clean and organized.
  • Assist with customer loading and general yard operations as needed.
  • Support other departments and locations when business needs require.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all DOT, OSHA, state, federal, and company safety regulations.
  • Maintain required licenses and certifications.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and safe driving habits at all times.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Boom truck, crane, construction, or heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Construction, building materials, or lumberyard experience preferred.
  • Must be insurable under company insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to climb on and off trucks and trailers throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform physical labor.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate boom truck controls and material handling equipment.
