Purpose of the position
Will perform assigned Operator duties as a PAE, an Amentum company, employee onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Principal Responsibilities of the Position
  • Support the safe Operation of the site utilizes at Johnson Space Center ("JSC"), Ellington Field ("EF"), and Sonny Carter Training Facility ("SCTF").
  • Support JSC, EF, and SCTF with utility configuration control.
  • May be required to work in an Operation Call Center.
  • May be required to write work orders.
  • Will be required to work in small spaces in mechanical rooms and the JSC tunnel system.
  • You will be required to work with handle tools and ladders.
  • You must be able to drive a vehicle.
  • You may be required to work in one of the utility plants.
  • Takes Electronic readings on equipment, Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors.
  • Visually inspects Building pumps: Condensate, Chill Water, and Boiler Feed.
  • Starts and stops equipment as instructed. (Chillers and Pumps)
  • Monitors Steam Boilers.
  • Open and Closes valves as instructed by Chief Operator and works Utility Procedures.
  • Does Water analysis of Boiler and Cooling Tower waters.

Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Be able to understand the various piping systems located in building.
  • Have a understand of cooling towers.
  • Have knowledge of Boilers and be able to operate same.
  • Have working knowledge of Pumps and motors.
  • Understand potable water treatment and distribution.
  • Have a working knowledge of refrigeration systems, (Chillers) and be able to operate same.
  • Have working knowledge of refrigeration system and be able to operate.
  • Understand Boiler Chemistry readings and capable of adjusting chemical systems.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check.
  • Referral must provide documentation to support qualifications.
  • Ensuring quality and completeness of work, as well as, ensuring areas worked are clean, neat, and ready for Customers' needs when complete.

  • Must have a High School Diploma.

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with State Seal), valid US Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided prior to date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.

  • Must have, and maintain, a valid Texas driver's license.

Special Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Minimum 2 years Plant experience; Chemical or Water plant.
  • A working understanding of cooling system, Steam system, Water distribution, Sanitary sewer, and Heating and Cooling systems.
  • Must be able to pass the physical and be a member of the Hurricane Ride Out Team ("HRT"). This will require staying on-site during a Hurricane for approximately 48-72 hours and work to secure the facilities and JSC work site.
  • This position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires US Citizenship.
  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
  • Will ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat, and ready for Customers' needs when complete.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a hot and cold environment.
  • Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.
  • Must be physically fit to perform duties of the position as required.

Preferences
  • Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
