Your Opportunity
Stantec is looking for a Biologist to work on a variety of ecosystem and water resources projects including, but not limited to stream restoration, wetland delineation and restoration, ecosystem restoration, vegetation monitoring, and pollinator habitat projects utilizing green infrastructure. A biologist will assist more senior biologists, engineers, and designers by performing the routine aspects of assessment and restoration assignments and may assist in the analysis of proposed projects. You should be able to collect, enter, and analyze data for a project, and perform a variety of tasks which may include both office and field work.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support for projects involving wetland delineation and restoration, stream restoration, ecosystem restoration, vegetation monitoring, pollinator habitat, and environmental compliance.
  • Works with other environmental and engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior biologist, engineer, or designer.
  • Performs field work as directed by a senior biologist, engineer, or designer. This may include field tasks such as vegetation monitoring, botanical surveys, soil sampling, wetland delineations, macroinvertebrate sampling, etc.
  • Performs basic calculations to enter and analyze biological and environmental data using ESRI ArcGIS software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Prepare tables, figures, summaries of findings, and survey reports.
  • Perform a variety of tasks which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • This position is part of a larger environmental services team and will likely require support to multiple Stantec offices. Travel will be required.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Be willing to learn new skills while conducting field work, work independently for long hours in potentially inclement weather conditions, and be flexible in undertaking work assignments.
  • Have excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Understand environmental and ecosystem restoration concepts and effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Be proficient in interpreting maps, sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
  • Be conscientious, detail-oriented, organized, and disciplined.
  • Build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships within your technical team.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license are required.
  • Typical field work environments require the ability to stand and hike for extended periods of time on uneven terrain, lift and move items and equipment up to 50 pounds, and climb a ladder. Field work will include exposure to inclement weather conditions. Work assignments will be both field and office based.
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE (safety), including client-specific training (as required).
  • Strong interest in plant identification

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biology, Environmental Science, or Soil Science
  • Minimum of 0-5 years of experience
  • Co-op/Internship experience preferred
  • Professional Wetland Scientist certification is preferred but not required

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
