Annual Salary Range: $68,300 - $129,100
*Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Job Summary
As a Mechanical Engineer at BPMI, you will work under significant oversight to perform routine technical functions to support company operations in areas including, but not limited to engineering evaluations and analyses, planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural, or electrical components, systems, equipment, and facilities. Work may include chemical or materials evaluations, design and manufacturability reviews, developing specifications, operations support, safety analysis, vibration analysis, engineering methods and software development, and evaluation of procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.
Essential Duties:
  • Assist with engineering responsibility that supports fleet, field, technology, analysis, manufacturing, facilities, testing, and operations activities.
  • Assist in the study, design, application, analyses, test or the preparation of specifications and processes for systems, materials, equipment or components relating to a limited aspect of the group's function.
  • Prepare project plans to accomplish assigned work. Identify and complete performance measures, including post job assessments. Meet project and schedule requirements.
  • Assist in performing analytical evaluations which may include the application of existing computer models.
  • Develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical manuals, reports or procedures in accordance with NR program quality standards.
  • Assist in design, development, execution, and evaluation of engineering research and design projects.
  • Complete training and work assignments that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering methods and practices of the Company.
  • Participate in technical discussions with suppliers and evaluate vendor prepared designs and supporting documents.
  • Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding.
  • Assist in monitoring supplier performance and participate in production and quality surveillance and production reviews at supplier plants and report results.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 for newer college graduates.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Experience in project engineering or design engineering with some experience or familiarity in one or more of the following areas: manufacturing, welding, specification preparation, structural analysis, fluid flow, mechanical design, vibration analysis, or field support.
  • Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving capabilities.
