Reports to: Director, Events A/V
Job Type: Full-time – Regular                                                                                            
Job Classification: Hourly (Non-exempt)                          
Workplace Location: Los Angeles – Academy Museum, 8949 Wilshire, Pickford, and Fairbanks
Compensation: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
Summary/Objective:
The Specialist, Events A/V supports the daily administrative and technical operations of non-exhibition audiovisual experiences across the Academy Museum and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This role is responsible for maintaining audiovisual technology within Academy Theater spaces, supervising event-day A/V staff, and supporting event production and teleconferencing technology across all Academy facilities.
Essential Functions of the Job:  
  • Serve as the A/V Lead for theater and non-theater activations.
  • Receive, quality check, and manage digital deliverables.
  • Act as the department representative during meetings.
  • Prepare, deploy, operate, and wrap audiovisual equipment.
  • Operate EOS lighting consoles.
  • Operate digital audio consoles.
  • Work alone and unsupervised.
  • Host Zoom meetings for AMPAS leadership and create webinars for Academy-wide meetings.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide event-day supervision and operational guidance to On-Call Technicians and Supervisors. This position does not have direct reports.
Required Competencies:  
  • A high School diploma or equivalent certificate of completion is required.
  • A minimum of four years as an A/V engineer or comparable experience.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience supporting and engineering Zoom Rooms, Zoom Meetings, and Webinars.
  • Demonstrated experience with Dante and similar audio over IP technologies.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and digital communication platforms, and ability to manage shared inboxes and respond to communications in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate lighting and audio consoles.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Work experience using Airtable, including creating tables, workflows, or automations.
  • Ability to travel between Academy locations throughout the Los Angeles area.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and short notice events.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A college degree in film production or technical theater is a plus.
  • Dante level 2 certified is a plus.
  • QSYS level 1 certified is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Paradigm control systems.
  • Understanding of technical theater terminology.
  • Experience with technical show calling or stage management.
  • Experience in rigging.
  • Experience in infrastructure fiber/data traffic.
  • Experience in using Bright Author for digital signage systems.
  • Project management experience supporting technical installations.
  • Passion for cinema and cinema history is a plus.
Physical Demands:
  • Comfort and ability to move and transport a minimum of 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment:
  • Work may be performed in a variety of settings, including darkened theaters, electrical or server rooms, conference rooms, shared office spaces, and noisy or crowded environments.
Travel: Up to 30% of travel time is expected for this position.
Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable. Exception: Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
Hybrid Requirement: All Academy positions require a minimum of 2 days per week of in-person work at an Academy Location. Exceptions: Positions requiring daily in-person presence (ex., front-line staff, staff who need to deal with materials on-site, etc.) and medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
