DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify business and technical impacts of user requirements and articulates to all constituents
  • Assume responsibility for the quality and delivery of technology business solutions
  • Create ad hoc and ongoing reports and other data outputs to support the clinical and business needs for the enterprise

The Analytics group has a dual report into both ITS and UW School of Medicine and provides operational oversight for the major analytics platforms and tools at UW Medicine. Analytics is a key support function as UW Medicine transitions towards value based health care. The Epic Cogito team provides data and analytic solutions across UW Medicine, specifically for finance, operations, institutional quality improvement, research and clinical analytics. This position is focused to the Epic Clinical domain and works closely with UW Medicine ITS customers, a team of developers, Clinical Informatics, and relevant Epic Applications teams (Inpatient, Ambulatory, Perioperative) to provide analysis, recommend appropriate solutions, and develop those solutions using the best reporting tools to support the need.

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with Analytics leadership to help set direction, standards, process for a team of Cogito and BI Developers
  • Working with Analytics Business Analysts, Clinical Informatics, application teams, and customers to gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements
  • Designing, coding, testing, and maintaining reporting and analytics objects, utilizing industry best practices
  • Utilizing Epic's Cogito suite of tools to deliver data solutions
  • Providing production support and respond to help desk tickets related to the BI development tool set and Epic Cogito suite
  • Mentoring and providing guidance, direction, and support to other developers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Math, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of experience/education
  • Currently holds 2 or more current Epic certifications OR has obtained Epic proficiency and has consistently demonstrated technical competencies for 3+ years in relevant functional/business area
  • Certification in Epic Cogito Fundamentals is required
  • Certification in Epic Cogito Tools Administration is required
  • Certification or experience with Beaker-AP is desired

4+ years of experience must include:

  • 4+ years' recent healthcare or IT experience
  • 3+ years' experience with BI reporting tools
  • 3+ years' experience with Epic Cogito reporting tools (SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboards)
  • Strong, applied experience with Epic data and reporting for medium to large scale projects is desired
  • Complete and demonstrable understanding of reporting best practices, including requirements gathering
