Job description

Description
Assistant Research Scientistwill conduct summary research on environmental science related to food production, animal agriculture, and climate change, linking research to recent news and policy developments. The researcher will develop scripts for communications of this research across traditional and social media for public dissemination. Lastly, the RA will work with an external media and communications specialist, a top firm in social impact communications for training, editing, and refinement of media materials.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct scientific and policy research on the environmental impacts of food production.
2. Develop scripts for public communication across traditional and social media.
3. Edit multimedia output-written material, photos, and videos.
Position expectations: The start date is on or around August 1, 2026, with a provisional appointment that will last 12 weeks. This is a fully in-person position. The successful candidate should anticipate weekly meetings and regular communication with the project PI to ensure progress and map out evolving research objectives and communication outputs. Research activities are expected to encompass about 12 hours per week, and must not exceed 27 hour/week on any given week.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $23/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications
Required qualifications. The candidate...
• Has a bachelor's degree in environmental studies or related fields.
• Has existing familiarity with the latest body of scientific knowledge and research on the intersection of climate change, food production, and interconnected environmental systems.
• Is self-motivated in research, and able to synthesize and summarize wide ranging results in a timely fashion.
• Has experience with scientific data analysis and data visualization, including graphs, diagrams, and animations.
• Possesses high scientific writing proficiency for both technical and public audiences.
• Possesses video editing skills, especially for social media formats (TikTok, Instagram Reels), with a practiced software workflow.
