THUNES IN THE US
Thunes Financial Services LLC is a Delaware limited liability company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It is registered as a money services business with FinCEN and licensed as a money transmitter (or statutory equivalent) in all U.S. States and Territories where required.
The company provides a cross-border payment network that includes remittance processing, corporate mass payouts, business to business payments, and digital payment services. Its customers include money transfer operators ("MTOs"), payment services providers, creator economy platforms, marketplaces, digital merchants, fintechs, corporates, banks, and mobile wallets.
CONTEXT OF THE ROLE
Based in San Francisco, reporting to the Americas Compliance Director based in Miami, this role in the US Compliance team will support the compliance function in the United States of America, and will support Thunes' activities there and globally.
This role is expected to partner with the Global Compliance function (including the Financial Crime team, the KYC team, and the Risk team, among others) and other cross-functional teams (Legal, Account Management & Business Development, Finance & Treasury, Product etc) based across the world.
The role is an office-based role, subject to Thunes' Office Working Policy, based out of the Company's offices in San Francisco.
The position provides an exciting opportunity to work on an international stage, alongside household names, and join a rapidly growing FinTech company making a real impact on the lives of people in developed and emerging markets alike.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has previously held senior payments' compliance roles in organisations such as:

• Payment Services Providers (incl. MTOs, acquiring PSPs)
• Banks or Financial Institutions
• Traditional banks active in the digital payments space
• Neo-banks (e.g. Monzo, Revolut and the likes)
• BaaS actors (Banking as a Service like Cybrid, Plaid)
• Crypto assets actor (e.g. exchange, liquidity provider, blockchain infrastructure)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting the business

• Reviewing the adequacy of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), source of funds, client information, client profiling and suitability during the account opening process - ensuring that financial crime risks are assessed and mitigated, meeting all best practice, regulatory and statutory requirements,
• Provide guidance and support to senior management and the board regarding the firm's risk-based approach to AML/CTF,
• Support and manage client reviews (sometimes onsite) conducted by Thunes as part of enhanced due diligence activities.
• Handle RFP processes and make sure about the quality of answers

Compliance risks management

• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks and assess the effectiveness of the controls that the firm has put against these risks,
• Assist in the management of remediation items (e.g. development of change management controls when needed)
• Develop and strengthen relationships to promote best practice and ensure a good understanding of Financial Crime requirements,
• Contribute to the design of policies and the Compliance Programme,
• Execute the Compliance Monitoring Programme by producing quality reviews

Liaison with regulators

• Support with the preparation of local exams and periodical/ad hoc reportings to the regulators
• Liaise with local law enforcement and regulators to resolve issues - investigating any suspicion raised for a suspicious transaction, in consultation with the MLRO and preparing SAR reports to US FIU (FinCEN),
• Help maintain money transmission licenses, including and renewing licenses, handling, gathering, and updating sensitive corporate information, and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to regulators
• Management of open license items in the NMLS

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience & Knowledge

• 3 to 5 years of professional experience as Compliance in the payment industry
• Master 2 University Degree or equ. in Law, Criminal Law, Business Law
• Expertise in compliance areas within a financially regulated company including namely AML/TF, Risk & Permanent Control, Business minded and able to support the development of innovative payment services
• Experience in virtual currencies/blockchain is a strong plus

• Excellent written and verbal communicator in English with fluency in Spanish being a plus
